From the beginning of Samaritan Aviation as an organization, one of our primary goals has been to equip and empower PNG nationals. It is a blessing to observe the growth and maturity in the Papua New Guineans working with Samaritan Aviation, in both their work responsibilities and their spiritual growth. We would like to introduce you to a few of them.
Linus and Emil Suramba, and our current intern Anthony Mark, make up our hanger staff.
Their responsibilities include helping our pilots ready the planes for flight, and keeping our hanger clean and organized. On top of that, they attend discipleship meetings held once or twice a week, led by Luke Hamer and Nick Mosca. During a recent Bible study session, Linus mentioned that before he worked for Samaritan Aviation, he and his family didn’t know what was in the Bible. When Nick heard him share this, he was surprised because Linus now has a pretty good grasp of Scripture. Several years ago, Robert Mapmango started working with our Medical Director Chris Cooke helping with maintenance on our compound.
Chris arranged Bible study times with Robert, and eventually, Robert became a believer. As he matured in his faith, Chris began taking him to the hospital to visit patients. Soon Robert was able to take over the hospital ministry himself. Now Robert holds Bible studies of his own with our base guards and base personnel. About two years ago, Catherine Hombla started working alongside Robert and other staff in our hospital ministry. She has been a huge blessing because about 40% of our patients have pregnancy-related conditions. Catherine is married to a local pastor and has an excellent understanding of how to relate the gospel to patients.
