Skola was climbing a tree to pick some tulip-tree leaves, a favorite green to boil and add to a meal. While reaching for a leaf, Skola fell, hitting branches on the way down, and was unable to move. Our pilot, Nick Mosca, flew Skola and her sister-in-law to the hospital and right away our staff was drawn to her warmth and smile. Her lower back was broken, but despite her circumstances she saw positives in every situation. Our hospital ministry staff, Robert and Catherine, and other SA team members spent a lot of time with Skola. They read the Bible to her, talked about Christ’s death and resurrection, and the hope we have if we believe. Skola always seemed so engaged and hungry for more.
A few weeks later, Luke Hamer was flying medication to Skola’s village and checked in on her. Her physical condition had deteriorated and her husband abandoned her completely. She is now cared for by her father. We are saddened by Skola’s physical state, but rejoice in her salvation and newfound hope in the Savior.
Please join us in our continued prayers for Skola.
